The Black Sea coast is a vital region of Romania and on this tour you will understand why.  On the west shore of the Black Sea, old ruins are whispering long gone stories about ancient Greek and Roman colonists who populated the area over 2 000 years ago.  In Constanta, you will travel back in time and find out more about those colonists.

Then visit the trip's primary attraction - the Danube Delta, the second-largest river delta in Europe (after the Volga) and the best preserved on the continent.  It represents a natural treasure included on the UNESCO World Heritage list, with unique landscape, fauna, and flora.

Later, the Romans conquered the Greek settlements and renamed them Constantiana, after the sister of the Roman Emperor Constantin the Great. Constanta became the largest harbor at the Black Sea and the fourth largest commercial harbor in Europe. In the Old Town you will visit the Museum of History & Archeology, the Roman Edifice with mosaic (the largest mosaic from the Roman Empire), the statue representing Publius Ovidius Naso, the Muslim Mosque built by the first king of Romania, Carol 1st as an homage to the local Muslim community (going up in the Minaret Tower you can have a splendid panoramic view of the whole city of Constanta), the Orthodox Cathedral dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul (monument of Byzantine architectural style), the Aquarium Constanta - the first public aquarium in Romania, and the Genoese lighthouse first built in the 13th century and rebuilt in its present style in 1858-1860.

Lunch in Constanta followed by a drive to Tulcea. Tulcea is known as "the gate to the Danube Delta." The city’s Greek ancient name was Aegyssus, dating from the 8th century BC and later conquered by the Roman Empire. After a walk on the harbor's promenade, you will check into your hotel accommodation in time for dinner (cost of dinner not included in tour price).

DAY 2:  TULCEA - DANUBE DELTA (boat ride) - BUCHAREST (350 km)

Breakfast at the hotel is included in the tour price before you go deeper into the Danube Delta on a boat tour, the major attraction of the day.

The Danube Delta is unique in the world and is the largest river delta in Europe. There are 327 species of birds, 133 species of fish and typical vegetation of wetlands. Thanks to all these natural riches, the Danube Delta was classified as part of UNESCO world heritage in 1991.

During the boat tour, you will see one of Europe's most beautiful places, including outstanding and typical landscapes (wetlands) and many birds such as pelicans, cormorants, egrets, herons, swans, etc.

After the boat tour, you will have time for lunch (not included in tour price) and then prepare to leave the Danube Delta's natural lands and head back to Bucharest, where you will be dropped off at your accommodation.
